How to create a successful SEO marketing campaign

by Brett Harper

SEO can be difficult to understand, especially if you’ve never tried marketing a business before. There are many elements to consider, and plenty of strategies are involved when planning an SEO marketing campaign. We will provide a simple how-to guide for implementing a successful SEO marketing campaign.

SEO marketing

Find the right keywords for your online marketing efforts.

Keywords are the building blocks of successful SEO campaigns; they need to align with your customers’ needs and requirements (e.g., what they search for). Put yourself in their shoes and think about how they might search for a “hotel near me” or “online lingerie retailer.”

Chances are, not all searches fall into the same category-they’re unique and different from each other, which means that there is no one-size-fits-all keyword strategy that could provide huge organic traffic-you need to find those ideal terms targeted specifically to fit yours so that people searching for what you have will see it too.

Make your content easy to read.

Write in a conversational tone. The most effective SEO content creation uses a language that ‘flows’ as it’s being read, creating an easy-to-follow narrative like you would use when speaking to a friend. Using contractions and avoiding ‘filler’ words can help your readers stay engaged and make the information easier to ingest.

Use bullets or numbers to break up the text. Modern content consumers are short on attention and long on choices, so create digestible chunks of text using bullet points or numbered lists at the start of each paragraph.

Use subheadings to break up the text. Subheadings are a great way to organize your ideas into easily digestible bites for the reader (which is especially important for longer articles). They also help with SEO because Google places more importance on words appearing in heading tags than in body copy.

Use simple words. When we write, we often include complex terms to sound smart and impress our peers when it comes to articles about marketing, saying what you mean doesn’t just make sense; it makes customers happy, too! Plain language means more precise communication between marketers and their target audience, producing better results for everyone involved.

Shorten your sentences by removing unnecessary words like “that,” “therefore,” “however,” etc., or try replacing them with commas instead! You’ll find yourself writing much faster while still getting across exactly what needs to, making sure you’re not unnecessarily cluttering up the content.”

Target the right audience to increase conversion rates

To increase your conversion rates, targeting the right audience is important. This group will be most interested in what you offer and will most likely convert.

So, how do you ensure that your SEO marketing campaign attracts the right people? The simple answer is to increase relevance. When you know who you’re targeting with your content, you can create something more relevant to them and their needs.

Okay, but how do we learn about this audience? It would help if you had market research. This can take several forms: surveys, interviews with existing customers and clients, or even real-time data from Google Analytics on your current traffic numbers and sources.

As an example of targeting a niche audience, look no further than our recent history at Elementor. We partnered with Kinsta to determine precisely which CMS (Content Management System) was best for WordPress websites, and we only targeted WordPress users with our survey via Twitter ads.

Why? Because those were our most relevant audience for this piece of content, i.e., users whose opinion could improve our understanding of which CMS was best for WordPress sites specifically.”

Use long-tail keywords to create valuable content.

The keyword you choose determines the SEO value of your content, so you want to be sure that it is relevant and profitable. To maximize profitability, choose a long-tail keyword.

Long-tail keywords are usually more specific (and therefore easy to rank for), which means they’re often used when someone is near the end of their buying cycle and ready to convert. For example, suppose you run an online grocery store, and someone searches “banana chips” on a search engine website. In that case, they’re likely just looking for information about banana chips- they’re not searching with the intent to buy them.

However, if someone searches “buy banana chips near me,”? It’s safe to assume that they already know what banana chips are and need help finding them locally (or at least online). Their search shows purchase intent: they’ve probably done all the research they need and are ready to buy.

Keep your website up to date.

When your website is up and running, you can’t just forget about it. To continue success with SEO, you need to keep your website updated. Here are some quick tips for keeping your site current:

  • Create new content regularly
  • Fix broken links
  • Use a responsive design (i.e., a design that resizes the layout depending on the resolution of the device being used)
  • Use a caching plugin (i.e., a plugin that reduces page load times by storing a static copy of pages)
  • Add social sharing buttons (i.e., buttons that allow users to share your content on their social media profiles)
  • Check analytics weekly and study referral, direct, and search engine traffic.
  • Check for 404 errors (i.e., links that no longer work) and ensure they redirect properly.
  • Use an XML sitemap plugin or have a sitemap added manually.

Take a mobile-first approach.

It’s no secret that more people are now using their mobile devices to browse the web for answers. Over half of all Google searches are now made on smartphones. Your content must be optimized for mobile users if you want your blog post to attract visitors and rank highly in search results.

Mobile-friendly websites are typically easier to read and navigate than desktop counterparts and are quicker to load (a key ranking factor). So, how do you ensure that your blog post is responsive?

Several popular website design tools – Squarespace, Wix, and WordPress (through plugins or themes) – offer built-in mobile responsiveness at no extra cost. For example, one of our clients recently reported an increase in overall traffic of 25% after optimizing its website for mobile use across all pages and posts! Even if your platform doesn’t offer native responsiveness, it’s still worth investing in a professionally designed theme or template fit for purpose.

Make it easy for readers to navigate your website.

A website that is easy for the reader to navigate is critical to any successful blog. To make your site as simple as possible, you should include topics in the menu, stick with one design theme (think crisp, clean, and modern), and offer plenty of ways to access additional content.

You should also include search functionality on your site. A search box is extremely efficient for readers who have specific questions or ideas. Visitors will almost always be able to find what they are looking for if you have a search box.

Another good feature for your website is a footer section. This area will typically display navigation links, copyright information, and other relevant details not included in your page’s main body of text.

Use external and internal links strategy.

Once you’re regularly publishing high-quality content on your site, it’s time to start thinking about using links to create a more informative and engaging experience for your readers. This is the part of SEO where most people get confused, and it’s important to remember that the idea here isn’t just to link to other websites—the goal is also to help organize and structure your website.
